Rules for BEE-IX members

BEE-IX is a free, amateur internet exchange point. It is neither a service nor a contract: participation is free and comes with no guarantees. The rules below exist for one reason — to keep routing in the community honest and stable for every member.

Who can join
  • You need your own autonomous system (ASN).
  • BEE-IX is IPv6-only. Peering LAN — 2001:7f8:11f:be00::/64, route server — AS210925.
  • You can connect over your own link or via a VPS. The VPS is a separate paid service of sole proprietor R. Sartov under the offer agreement; it does not make participation in BEE-IX paid.
What the route server accepts from you
  • Only global unicast IPv6 prefixes (2000::/3) with a length from /8 to /48.
  • No special-purpose blocks (documentation, 6to4, 6bone, Teredo) and no prefixes of the peering LAN itself.
  • The first AS in the path must be yours; no private or reserved ASNs in the path; AS-path no longer than 64.
  • Only prefixes matching your IRR records (as-set or ASN). The filter is built automatically; if your IRR records are empty or unreachable, the session accepts nothing until they are fixed.
  • The number of prefixes is capped by a limit agreed when you connect.

Rejected routes are visible in the Looking Glass in your cabinet — it makes it easier to see why a prefix did not get through. There is no RPKI filtering yet: it is on the way.

Blackhole
  • Only for /128 host routes with the 65535:666 community.
  • The address must belong to your own IRR-registered space — you cannot blackhole someone else's address.
  • Such routes do not leave BEE-IX.

All other announcement control is done with large communities, see BGP communities.

What is not allowed
  • Announcing prefixes that do not belong to you or are not authorised by their owner.
  • Causing abnormal routing instability (excessive route churn), keeping "empty" BGP sessions or distributing forged BGP updates.
  • Spoofing addresses and creating load that harms the peering LAN, the route server or other members.
If the rules are broken
  • If a breach threatens other members, we may shut the session down immediately and write to you afterwards. Otherwise we write first and give you time to fix it.
  • Repeated or deliberate breaches are grounds for removal from BEE-IX.
  • If you are connected via a VPS, a breach of these rules is at the same time a breach of the acceptable use rules under the offer agreement.
Guarantees and liability

The route server, peering, Looking Glass and everything else in BEE-IX are free, best-effort, with no SLA. We are not liable for outages, lost routes or their consequences for your network. The rules may change; we will notify members of material changes by e-mail.
